Research Associate – Cell Biologist R&D (MA)

Job Description
Semma Therapeutics, a biotechnology company focused on developing a pluripotent stem cell-based cell therapy for Type 1 diabetes, is seeking an outstanding research associate (RA) to join its growing team. The full-time role will focus on tissue culture, molecular and cellular characterization, and assay development. Under the supervision of a Senior Scientist the associate will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of specific projects in coordination with members of the Discovery Biology team. The position will be located in Cambridge/Boston, MA.

Responsibilities:

  • Culture and differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells in various conditions, including differentiation protocol optimization
  • Perform bioassays: Flow Cytometry, ICC, glucose stimulated insulin release assays, qRT-PCR
  • Perform experiments requiring molecular biology techniques including cloning, qPCR, NGS, RNA and DNA analysis
  • Lab management: Maintain cleanliness, safety standards, organization and general lab duties
  • Inventory management: Keep track of materials and consumables. Work closely with general lab manager
  • Instrument maintenance: Keep track of support specialists regarding instrumentation needs and usage in the lab, support users

Required qualifications:

  • BS or MS in cell/molecular biology or related discipline with 1-2 years of relevant industry or academic experience
  • Experience with cell culture, cell-based assays, and cell culture
  • Demonstrated excellence in executing and analyzing experiments
  • Critical thinking and independence, ability to troubleshoot, solve difficult problems, and develop process and/or assay improvements
  • Attention to detail and careful record-keeping
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to write technical reports and protocols
  • Flexible team player excited to collaborate with internal and external partners
  • Highly self-motivated and flexibility in working schedule to accommodate weekend work if necessary
  • Authorized to legally work in US

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with embryonic or induced pluripotent stem cell (ESC/hiPSC) culture and differentiation
  • Experience with lab management and project multitasking
